Hearing Aids & iPhone Compatibility

Most Bluetooth-enabled hearing aids can pair with iPhones, but you should double-check to make sure yours are compatible and allow for a direct connection. More than 40 top hearing aid manufacturers and Apple have worked together to create “Made for iPhone” or MFi hearing aids. You can find a list of all the compatible devices on Apple’s website. MFi devices only work with iPhone 5 or later, including the following Apple products:

  • iPad Pro
  • iPad Air
  • iPad Mini
  • iPad (4th generation or later)
  • iPod Touch (4th generation or later)

What if My Hearing Aids Aren’t Compatible?

If your hearing aids aren’t compatible with your iPhone, and that’s an important feature for you, you can discuss the possibility of alternatives with your hearing care provider. Mid America Audiology Group offers a broad range of top-rated hearing aids that are iPhone compatible.

Step 1: Connect to Bluetooth

Take the following steps to connect your hearing aids to Bluetooth in your phone settings:

  • Open the settings app on your iPhone (gear icon)
  • Scroll down to Accessibility
  • Click on “Look for Hearing Devices”
  • Take out your hearing aids and turn them on
  • In a few moments, your hearing aids should appear under “MFI Hearing Devices”
  • Select the hearing aids you want to pair
  • Please wait 30 seconds to allow them to fully connect to your Bluetooth

Step 2: Connect to the Hearing Aid App

Once you’ve connected your hearing aids to your iPhone, you can download and open the app that allows you to control your volume, program, and sound quality (most modern hearing aids include an iPhone app). Take the following steps to connect your hearing aids to their app:

  • Open the app and click on “Connect”
  • Your devices are already connected to Bluetooth, so they should appear on the first attempt.
  • Click “Continue” to allow your hearing aids to pair with the app.
  • Once paired, you might need to restart them by placing them on the charger or turning them off and back on.
  • You should now be able to control your hearing aids using the branded app on your phone.

What if They Aren’t Pairing with My iPhone?

If you’re having trouble successfully pairing your devices, you can check your phone to see if you’re experiencing connectivity issues. You can also double-check to ensure your phone’s software is updated to the latest version.

What if I Have an iPhone & iPad?

You should have no issue switching back and forth between devices if you’re connected to the same Wi-Fi network and logged into the same account.

What if My Hearing Aids Don’t Say “Made for iPhone?”

You can still pair them with your smartphone as long as they have a Bluetooth connectivity feature. However, you’ll need a separate streaming device to pair to your iPhone as a communication link. Most hearing care providers sell these devices.

Will Pairing Hearing Aids to iPhone Drain My Battery Faster?
