Ensuring Compliant Communications

Mid America Audiology and its affiliates (“Provider”) honor patient privacy and security rights when it comes to their health information. Provider intend to communicate with you via electronic mail communications, including electronic mail and SMS text (collectively “E-Communications”) relating to your care and treatment.  Transmitting patient information by E-Communications has a number of risks that you should carefully consider before using E-Communications to communicate with us or agreeing to allow us to use E-Communications to communicate with you.  These risks include but are not limited to the following:

  • E-Communications can be circulated, uploaded, forwarded, stored electronically and on paper, and broadcast to unintended recipients.
  • E-Communications senders can readily misaddress an E-Communication.
  • E-Communication can be intercepted, altered, forwarded or used without authorization or detection.
  • E-Communication may not be secure when set without encryption technology, and therefore it is possible that the confidentiality of such communications may be breached by a third party.

When using E-Communications with Provider, please be mindful of the following:

  • Email is not appropriate for urgent or emergency situations.
  • E-Communications should not be used for highly sensitive communications.
  • You are responsible for informing Provider, in writing, if you want to cease or limit E-Communications communications with Provider.  You may do so at any time without reason or explanation.
  • You are responsible for protecting your E-Communications account password or other means of access to your E-Communications.
  • Limit or avoid use of public computers and public networks.
  • Promptly inform Provider of changes in your E-Communications address.
  • Take precautions to preserve the confidentiality of your E-Communications.  Once Provider sends an E-Communications from its network, it has no control over its confidentiality or security.
